TellTale
Installation, Adelaide Festival, 1996
Adelaide, Australia
This series of objects marks and records activity on the river's edge, revealing traces of different uses of the site that are often invisible to the casual viewer. A wall structure, projection screen, night-lights, and furniture pieces operate as mechanical agents collecting evidence. The city is full of such TellTale markings: in the physical remains of graffiti, beer cans, cigarette butts with lipstick, cast-off t-shirts, soiled linen. This installation theatricalizes these small clues as relics, but leaves the story of their origins in question.
Sponsored by the Adelaide/Telstra Festival
The piece was made for a portfolio of five U.S. artists working in Rome for the magazine BOMB.
